The Client
Mental Health Matters (MHM) is a nationwide charity providing a wide range of support to people with mental health needs. It supports over 42,000 people every year, with a focus on holistic psychological, therapeutic and mindful-based routes to well-being.
The Challenge
MHM has a responsibility to securely manage highly sensitive data, through its range of public and private sector contracts. It turned to us for help in achieving certification to the government-backed Cyber Essentials scheme, to demonstrate its commitment to cyber security and protect itself against the most common and widely used cyber threats.
Our Solution
Our security experts have years of experience in helping organisations of all types and sizes to achieve Cyber Essentials, and as MHM’s managed service partner for several years we understand their business. We were able to support their in-house team all the way through Cyber Essentials, which tested five key areas of MHM’s IT infrastructure: firewalls, secure configurations, user access control, malware protection, and patch management.
We worked side by side with the in-house team, going through the Cyber Essentials Readiness Toolkit process, drawing up an action plan, and completing the self-assessment questionnaire before submitting it to the independent certification body. MHM passed first time.
The Outcome
Paul Robinson, IT and Data Manager at MHM, explains:
“Public sector contracts represent a significant proportion of our income, and Cyber Essentials is now specified as a mandatory element of many public sector tender responses, making it an all-important stamp of quality on our approach to cyber security.
As our managed services partner for several years, the ITPS team understands our organisation and Cyber Essentials’ requirements, especially around the new updates.
They helped us deal with pain points and guided us through the complex questionnaire to a successful re-certification.Cyber Essentials is a very effective element of a toolkit that protects our organisation from the financial and operational consequences of attacks, and ITPS’s assistance in becoming accredited was invaluable.”
