Celebrating Success: Andy Hunter, CTO

Posted on: 10th July 2023

With years of senior level expertise in communications, networking, information security and management under his belt, including setting up the North East’s first high performance data centre, Andy was a welcome addition to our team in 2011.

His first role with us was as Technical Director in charge of unified communications, data centres, consultancy and managed services.

Andy’s career highlights with ITPS have included creating the ITPS national network and driving the project that created our flagship £4m North East data centre; securing coveted quality certifications including ISO27001 and ISO9001; cementing our status as an accredited supplier for the NHS Health and Social Care Network (HSCN), and attaining a wide range of vendor and partner certifications.

“As CTO I am ultimately responsible for our overall technical direction, delivery and service portfolio as well as securing and maintaining the company and individual national and international certifications which maintain our reputation for the highest levels of technical expertise and service delivery,“ he said.

“I joined ITPS at a senior level and was immediately welcomed to the fold, being mentored by ITPS founder Garry Sheriff. He was very generous with his guidance and advice and I learned a lot from him and the other members of the board as we grew the business.”

A well-known figure in technical circles, Andy’s career with ITPS has been supported through a combination of formal and informal training and development opportunities that have seen him become a sought-after speaker at industry events, and a highly respected source of knowledge and advice.

Andy’s time both at work and at home is at a premium, so he needs the flexibility ITPS provides to be able to combine his professional life with his volunteer role as Chair of a local Sea Cadet unit, and his fostering and support of children with specific needs.

“No one can achieve career success on their own, it takes a team effort and I’ve been lucky enough to be surrounded by talented and committed colleagues,” he added.

“Career progression also means choosing the right employer, one which is committed to supporting and developing its workforce through technical training, personal and leadership development. I’ve personally benefited enormously from that support and as a board level director I’ve been pleased to mentor other members of our team, and share my knowledge and experience.”
