The Challenge

When Ward Hadaway identified a need for a cloud-managed Wi-Fi network solution for its multi-site operation, ITPS recommended the best of breed Cisco Meraki, a scalable, and easy to manage solution that addresses the problems of managing mobile devices.

“The explosion of both BYOD and CYOD has increased the pressure on in-house teams ttto manage a comprehensive wireless solution. We are in a highly competitive sector, operating in a pressured environment where IT is expected to deliver 24/7 in order to help law firms deliver high levels of client satisfaction and stay ahead of the curve. Our staff and clients expect secure, problem-free wireless access wherever they are in our buildings and at any time they want it.

ITPS Approach

An on-site demo followed by a visit to an ITPS reference site – the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead – confirmed David’s view that Meraki could meet his needs. “Our experience of Meraki has been excellent,” he said.

“ITPS consultants carried out a site survey at all three locations to assess what we needed in terms of cabling and access points, and then its engineers worked with our in-house team to configure the network and set the system up. This was a quick and simple process and the Meraki network was fully operational within a couple of hours.

“It has delivered a comprehensive wireless solution, without any headaches. The management and control features are incredibly useful, and because we opted for a cloud-based solution rather than relying on-site controllers, I can even use my iPad when I’m on the move to look at the analytics on users, devices and applications, or make relevant changes to bandwidth, etc.

“As well as control over which sites and applications users can access, we also have total control over bandwidth. For instance, if we are running a specific Marketing event we can quickly set up a separate SSID and give staff and users enhanced bandwidth just for that event, so we are only pulling down the resources we need. Keeping guest access separate from our own network like this reinforces our security and means we don’t saturate our communications.

“Many of our internal users are not aware of which wireless management system we have switched to, and why should they be? Since we installed Meraki, all they know is that their Wi-Fi problems have gone away. If someone is trying to send an urgent document to a client from their mobile device, they don’t want to hear why the IT is not working. They need to please the client, they don’t want the detail.

“Because Meraki has thus far been completely trouble-free, Wi-Fi management has become a service we provide without having to devote team resources to it, so everyone is happy. We haven’t had to make a single call to Cisco’s support desk, and the level of Wi-Fi related service calls to our in-house IT team has dropped to zero.

“I would certainly recommend Meraki to anyone looking for a solution to the problems of a reliable, user friendly and manageable Wi-Fi network solution. It simply works.”
